Tivo transfer speeds - hardwired
In the continuing saga of my Tivo transfer speeds:
I have now doubled my Tivo download speed to about 750KBytes per second. I acheived this by connecting my PC to the network with a hardwire instead of through my 802.11b wireless adapter. I’m still far slower than CacheCard reported speeds (3000KBytes/sec) but at least I’m now faster than real-time. (This is important because it means I can watch movies on my PC streamed from my Tivo.)
750KB is about 6MBits. The Tivo is limited by its USB1.1 interface to 12MBits, and the network itself is limited to 10MBits (because I have a slow router on my end). So 6MBits isn’t unreasonable, but it’s not theoretically optimal. I plan to experiment more when I have time.
