Our Dream House

No, not the new one. The old one.

See… We lived there for ten years. It was a great house for us. It was the right size, in the right neighborhood. And it was very “lived in”, so I didn’t need to worry about my young boys tearing it up.

Over the years, we updated it inside, we repaired a few things and we ignored some other things. Like the roof. And the rot in the side attic. And the garage. And the trim moulding in the kitchen. Oy!

So now that we’ve moved out, we need to sell it. We need to make it presentable. We need to replace the roof, repair the attic, and so on. We need to make it our Dream Home! again.

Saturday: We found a rotten load-bearing wall in the garage. My father-in-law was over and we spent the day rebuilding it with pressure-treated wood. We also repaired some water damage in the ceiling.

Sunday: We spent the afternoon and night screwing down the floor decking in the upstairs. These floors have squeaked like rusty doors since the day we moved in. I tried to screw them down 10 years ago, but my screws were breaking, my drill was not up to the task, and it didn’t seem to help any. So I gave up. Last night we pulled up the carpet and started bolting the floor down. We filled in some low areas of the floor to level it out a bit. And we got about halfway in 5 hours. I think this will take another couple of nights…

Monday: I’m on my way there to see what else can be fixed and work on the floors.

Continuing…
